The Local SEO Checklist Every SME Should Run Quarterly
Local search intent converts at a far higher rate than broad, non-local queries, and it’s also the area most SMEs neglect once initial setup is done. A quarterly review catches drift before it costs you visibility.
1. Business profile accuracy
Confirm your Google Business Profile, Bing Places, and any relevant directory listings show identical name, address, phone number, and hours. Inconsistency across platforms is one of the most common (and avoidable) local ranking blockers.
2. Review velocity and response rate
Check review volume growth versus your closest competitors, and confirm every review, positive or negative, has a timely, professional response.
3. Location page health
For multi-location businesses, audit each location page individually. Thin, duplicated location pages are a frequent cause of stalled local rankings.
4. Citation consistency
Spot-check your top 15–20 citation sources for accuracy. Old addresses and outdated phone numbers quietly erode trust signals over time.
5. Local content freshness
Confirm at least one piece of locally-relevant content has been published or updated in the last quarter: a seasonal guide, a community update, or a local case study.
Running through this checklist consistently is unglamorous work, but it’s the foundation everything else in local SEO builds on.
